Every young man dreads the day that he wakes up and looks, acts, THINKS like his father. Well, every girl dreads the day she emulates her mother, but I think it’s different with guys. Guys know it is coming, and sink into a unchallenged submission when it finally happens. Instead of railing against it, they tend to shrug and let the inevitability wash over them.
But what about everyone else? There are bound to be people in our lives who care a bit more about our paternal transformation. What if it’s our significant others or spouses? What if they are really disappointed in what we’ve become? They dated us as young hip bachelors and watched us morph into old, fat . . . non-hip committed men.
Maybe that is it: commitment. Maybe “cool” and “hot” or evolutionary necessities to help us get the partner and reproduce. Maybe once that’s done, once our “duty” is accomplished, we “die” like bees who have released their stingers in successfully protecting the hive.
Have you lost your stinger? Are you still holding onto it tightly?
